Even today some old-school types will still tell you that the chief information officer and the chief marketing officer are oil and water. The way they see it, the CIO is binary, techie, detail-oriented, process obsessed and inflexible while the CMO is spend-happy, fluffy, changeable and always pursuing novelty. ENOUGH! That clichéd view should be consigned to history and even if there were ever a grain of truth in it then the days of seeing CIOs and CMOs as polar opposites have to be gone.
